YouTube Material Design on PCs – Mobile Improvements and a Dark Theme
YouTube has made an official announcement today where it has announced that the service will get a new logo, combining the wordmark with an icon. You will notice that the new icon is actually the well known “Play” button, which is currently on the top of the red outline of the “CRT TV” that used to be under the “Tube” part of the worldmark.
We have to mention that the icon is now located to the left of the wordmark on the website, but there will be cases when the “brightened up” icon will be used as an abbreviated logo.
The YouTube mobile application has already been updated with the new design that comes with the navigation tabs on the bottom. To make things even better it also includes new Account and Library sections, and it allows you to speed up or slowdown playback (a feature that was available only on web in the past).
The company has also mentioned that sometime in the “coming months” you will have the ability to switch between videos with just a swipe: right for next and left for previous. YouTube will also change the shape to match the video format you’re about to watch, meaning that there will be no more black bars on the videos that have been filmed vertically.
According to the company, sometime in the near future its player will let you browse videos in totally new ways. Keep in mind that the desktop interface of YouTube is now fully Material Design infused for everyone and it features a dark theme.
All the features we’ve mentioned above are now available for some users as the company is currently testing them, but sometime in the near future they will roll out across the globe.
