Windows Media Player will no longer be Available in Windows 10

Windows 10 is determined to revolutionize the way you PC works and, sadly, this means that it will get rid of some of its oldest features. Right after Microsoft decided to remove one of the most iconic Windows programs, Paint, the tech giant showed us that the Falls Creators Update will get rid of another old program: Windows Media Player.

This has been discovered by Insiders testers after they installed KB4046355, also known now as the FeatureOnDemandMediaPlayer update. For the nostalgics, Windows Media Player will be missed, since it has been around for quite a while. However, it is not hard to understand Microsoft’s motivation. Not many people use this program nowadays, especially when there are so many alternatives including the Films & TV app that is available in Windows 10.

We do not know if this is official

It is very possible that Microsoft did not kill Windows Media Player for good. In fact, some users that are using the latest release said that the program is still there for them. Therefore, we might continue to have Windows Media Player in the final version and we cannot say anything for sure until Microsoft officially confirms it. So far the company hasn’t released any statement about this.

You can still get Windows Media Player back

If you really want to continue to use Windows Media Player, it appears that there is a way to install it, by using the Add a Feature option. All you have to do is go to Settings, open Apps and navigate to Apps & Features. There click on Manage optional features and then select Add a feature. Scroll down until you find Windows Media Player and then click install. This means that Microsoft hasn’t killed access to it.
