The Motorola Razr 2 5G could rival the Galaxy Z Flip 5G by offering a larger screen

One thing is for sure, the original Motorola RAZR with foldable screen was just an experiment, paving the way for a better equipped successor. Updated with 5G technology, the Motorola Razr 2 focuses on the competition offered by Samsung with the Galaxy Z Flip 5G model, having the difficult task of outlining a better choice.

Prepared with fear by smartphone makers who had not yet solved some existential problems, in terms of reliability and cost of the finished product, the success of the first wave of foldable phones stalled since the press review phase, images with Galaxy Fold remained unusable after only a few days of use remaining permanently imprinted in the collective memory of the fans.

Designed to prove that the RAZR format introduced in 2004 is still current, the RAZR 2019 model was an unexpected success, motivating the Motorola developer to promise a follow-up.

Motorola Razr 2, with larger screen

Appearing, for now, in the form of unofficial renderings, the new Motorola RAZR 2020 (RAZR 5G / Odyssey) does not draw a fundamentally different design. Instead, Motorola seems to have focused on aligning with the standards imposed by the competition, changing the 6.2-inch screen with a 6.85-inch solution that is much more visually pleasing. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G model will have a screen of only 6.7 inches.

It is not clear how things are in terms of resolution, but the new Motorola RAZR 5G seems to have more advantages than a larger screen. Analyzing the renderings provided, the main camera trim looks more prominent than the current model, which suggests the use of better performance lenses and / or high-resolution optical sensor.

According to the same images, the Motorola RAZR 5G supports use with both the screen fully extended and partially tilted at an angle of about 100 °, for example, using the bottom to scroll and key while reading the messages played at the top. Not really an innovation, this feature is already found in the Galaxy Z Flip series of phones.

Although it doesn’t look very good in the images, the main screen also looks bigger and with a design closer to the edge-to-edge concept, Motorola managing to thin the frame left on the side more.

On the side of the case can be seen a single physical button, possibly a fingerprint sensor.

Although not confirmed by Motorola, recent rumors describe the Motorola RAZR 5G with a configuration based on Snapdragon 765, helped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone would be supported with a 2800 mAh battery, Motorola choosing to rely more on the advantage of fast charging technology. The main camera is a 48MP model with sensor provided by Samsung. Instead, above the cropped screen we will find a 20MP front camera, useful for selfie photos and video calls. The screen positioned on the outside would provide the same 2.7-inch diagonal, its role being strictly for displaying received notifications and fast interactions with Android applications.
