Snapdragon 636 Processor and 5G Chip Will be Available for Future Smartphones
Qualcomm has great news for us with their new announcement on the next-generation network for smartphones. It looks like they have achieved 5G data connection for smartphones on a modem chipset (X50). They have also added news on a new processor for mid – range smartphones and mainstream smartphones. It will be called Snapdragon 636 and might power phones like Redmi Note 5 or Moto G6; with smartphone prices going between $154 – $462. The new processor is ranked under Snapdragon 835 and will be available to power these phones next year.
Qualcomm – Towards Worldwide Optimization of Smartphones
On the 5G technology and their X50 modem, Qualcomm reported that tests showed that the data connection had a 28GHz mm Wave radio frequency band. Qualcomm will optimize their 5G inside the smartphones’ hardware.
Qualcomm executive vice president, Cristiano Amon said that the company aims to improve mobile broadband experiences for the worldwide consumers.
They have a reference design for the 5G that is 9mm thick, with bezel less display, and it will be used in different tests: 5G modems, radios or networks so that companies will be able to launch smartphones by the first half of 2019 that will have 5G.
Snapdragon 636 is 30% Better than the Snapdragon 630
Qualcomm has improved their latest Snapdragon chipset and it will be better than the Snapdragon 630, having 30% more performance with the help of Kryo 260 CPU. It also has Adreno 509 GPU that will improve gaming by 10%. Expect to see some new smartphones that will have Snapdragon 636 in November.
Other news includes plans of collaboration in the 5G department with Novatel Wireless, teaming up with 3GPP for OTA trials that regard the 5G NR Release and will have 15 specifications that are currently under the global 5G standard development.
