OpenIV: The GTA Modding Tool Has Been Re-Launched

About two weeks ago, OpenIV, one of the most popular GTA modding tool has been taken offline after Take-Two Interactive, the GTA series’ publisher has sent a cease and desist notice to its developers.

Back then, the developers from OpenIV have decided to remove the download button of the mod tool so that they won’t face court with Take-Two Interactive. However, it seems that now the “Download” button has re-appeared on the website, but we are not sure yet what exactly is going on.

This is looking that the mod program will still continue to be updated and that the people behind the project will not face legal action. According to Kotaku, OpenIV admins have confirmed that the development of the mod tool will be continued soon enough.

When the first cease and desist letter was first mailed to OpenIV, Rockstar Games has explained the decision of the publisher mentioned that

Back when the cease and desist letter was first mailed out, Rockstar Games put out a statement explaining the publisher’s decision, saying, “Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”

With that being said, we think that OpenIV has managed to shutdown the backdoors in its mod tool. It seems that recently the tool has been updated and since then the download button has re-appeared on the website.

However, we hope that an official statement of OpenIV will soon appear on the internet, as there are many GTA fans that are using this tool to make their game more fun. We think that the pressure that all the players have put on Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive in the last few days have made the companies to allow the developers of OpenIV to continue their fine job and provide mods for the GTA fans.
