New Shadow of the Colossus Gameplay Gives the PS4 Pro One Up Against the Xbox One X

The PS4 Pro was the top dog for a while but after Microsoft announced and revealed the new, shiny Xbox One X  at this year’s E3,  most console lovers thought that Sony’s console was done for. Turn out that this is not quite the case and that the PS4 Pro is actually fit to battle the One X after all. The news came in the form of a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming remake of the classic game Shadow of the Colossus. The game is one of the most popular titles in the PlayStation hall of fame, and it’s getting a complete remake in 2018.

The new trailer shows a bit of what the game promises in terms of graphics, animations and state of the art rendering. Needless to say, fans were deeply impressed and those who have pre-ordered the One X might have felt slight nausea.

Xbox fans have their worst fears confirmed (kind of)

After the initial wave of awe, those that have witnessed the reveal of the new Microsoft One X console, formerly rumored as Project Scorpio, started to have doubts about the viability of this console. In terms of pure specs, there’s no doubt about it. Microsoft’s latest console trumps any competitor in its path, even the PS4 Pro. However that’s not the problem here. The problem is, that the machine is simply too powerful for the kind of resources required by today’s games.

By the time enough developers will take full advantage of the power behind the One X in order to build a full library and justify the very steep price on the console, it might be too late for One X buyers.  The new PS5 is rumored to appear sometime soon, in the next couple of years, meaning that there’s not that much time relatively speaking, for the One X to make a big splash on the gaming industry.

The PS4 Pro is still great and a lot cheaper

Those looking to buy a brand new console and are stuck between the latest offerings from both juggernaut are probably now having a much easier time. The new Shadow of the Colossus trailer has managed to prove to people that they can do just fine with the PS4 Pro which is still a great console.  The fact that it’s not the super rocket computing unit that One X is marketed to be is the prime factor behind people being reluctant to buy it now, but that mirage has pretty much dissipated now, and it’s anticipated that Sony will continue to sell their critically acclaimed console for the foreseeable future.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the One X. Based on the pre-orders alone, Microsoft are in for a hefty profit margin, but will the machine stick with console fans as a true successor of the Xbox line? Only time will tell if third party developers will manage to bring out games quick enough to justify the One X.
