IPhone 12 models could be equipped with smaller batteries

In the last few years, Apple has gone in an upward direction with the battery capacity of iPhones. For this reason, the latest models, iPhone 11, are also the ones that offer the best autonomy from Apple smartphones so far. However, it seems that the iPhone 12 will not be a mandatory upgrade in terms of batteries. Even the capacity of each model will be lower than that of current models, according to new information.

iPhone 12: smaller batteries, thinner design

Information about the iPhone 12 batteries comes from MySmartPrice, an Indian publication that has listed three models dedicated to various iPhone models not yet released. They come in three sizes, which suggests that the information we’ve received so far about the 5.4 “, 6.1” and 6.7 “iPhone 12 models has a real basis.

However, the unofficial details about the iPhone 12 models also suggested that they will be thinner, thanks to the new design. Thus, it was somehow expected that the batteries could be reduced in size to take place in the new housing. The smallest 5.4 ”model could be delivered with a battery with a capacity of just over 2,000 mAh, while the average variants could have a capacity of less than 3,000 mAh. Finally, the top model, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, could have a capacity of less than 4,000 mAh, and below that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

iPhone 12 5.4 ”- 2,227 mAh
iPhone 12 Max 6.1 ”- 2,775 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro 6.1 ”- 2,775 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 ″ – 3,687 mAh
Autonomy will not necessarily be weaker
It is important to note that despite the lower capacity batteries, the iPhone 12 models could still have a autonomy comparable to the previous generation. It will integrate Apple A14 processors made on the 5nm manufacturing process from TSMC, which will ensure low power consumption. Also, the iPhone 12 Max version is expected to offer the best autonomy of the three, as it will use an OLED screen with a lower resolution and probably limited to 60 Hz.

The new phones are not expected to come with in-box adapters, but Apple could ship a new quick charger as a separate accessory. It would provide 20W of power when charging, being 2W more powerful than the fast charger supplied with iPhone 11 Pro and iPad Pro.
