Clash of Clans isn’t just a mindless game you play to pass the time. It’s a game that forces you to think if you ever want to be victorious.

At the heart of your society is the base, you can’t carry on without it. It holds your resources and everything else your community needs to survive. And as such, you have to protect it at all costs.

Without a viable defense, any tribe can just come in at any time and take everything from you. But in order to build a good defense, you must know how your enemies attack, what they target, and how to defeat them. While it is true that you can’t build a perfect defense, building a base that is well-protected against common attacks can guarantee survival.

Different Base Types

The kind of base you build largely depends on what you are trying to achieve. For instance, you might be willing to sacrifice minor resources in order to protect valuable ones like Elixir from being stolen.

Here’s a look at the different ways you can structure your base:

• Farming Base

This is the kind of base you build based on the scenario presented previously. Opponents need resources and since building them up can take days, they often choose to attack in order to steal needed resources. It’s basically like an open invitation but one where the most important resources are well protected.

• Trophy Base

You gain trophies by winning multiplayer battles, and it also follows that you lose them in defeat. You also gain a trophy if your defense wins when your village is raided, otherwise you lose trophies.

Trophy count is important because it controls who you can attack and who can attack you. It also plays a role when you want to join a clan.

Basically, a trophy base is a good combination of offense and defense.

• Hybrid Base

This is the most common type of base that aims to protect both trophies and resources. It’s a type of base that is segmented by walls so attackers have a lot to go through in order to get to a particular storage.

• Shield Grabber Base

You would normally design a base to survive, but this one is built to be attacked. The goal of this type of base is to make your opponent use 33% of their army to destroy about 30% of your base. Doing so would give you a minimum 12-hour shield that you can use to request troops for war and to loot collectors.

• War Base

The goal of this base type is to prevent attackers from gaining stars on your base. As such, it warrants multiple attacks on your base. This layout is similar to Hybrid and Trophy bases.

• Troll Base

This type of base lures attackers into thinking it is flawed, but the fault is designed to destroy those who try to exploit it.

Clash of Clans is a strategic game. You have to keep thinking not only to survive but also reap rewards. Building bases is just one of the factors that has made this game so successful.
