Google Maps receives Augmented Reality-assisted navigation
Unfortunately, for now only on Android 11 and only with some phones in the Pixel series, Google adds option for AR navigation with the help of the camera, Google Maps adding suggestive visual indications, directly on the screen of the mobile phone.
Linked to the Android 11 version, the AR Live View Location Sharing feature allows you to show your friends your exact location, marked with Google Maps. When someone wants to find you, all they have to do is activate your avatar, displayed on the map. Instead of instructions for navigating Google Maps, the orientation to your location can also be done with the help of visual indications displayed directly on the screen, superimposed over the image obtained with the camera of the mobile phone.
The augmented reality (AR) navigation function is complemented by Smart Replies technology, which should facilitate instant message communication by auto-inserting the right answer. For now, this functionality is limited to English and can only be accessed from some chat applications using the Gboard keyboard.
Pixel phones can now also offer application suggestions, based on how and when you use applications already installed on your phone. For example, your Android 11 phone will automatically suggest installing Google Maps if your lifestyle involves frequent travel. Targeting the evening, the recommendations could include popular video streaming apps and other leisure selections that could help you relax after a busy day.
To install Android 11 along with the latest firmware update reserved for Pixel phones, just go to Settings> System> Advanced> System update> Check for update. The list of compatible phones includes the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL series.
