Fix No Audio Output Device Is Installed Error on Windows 7, 8 and 10

If you’re a music lover, this issue is particularly annoying to you, but you know those moments when that pesky red X appears on your computer’s sound icon? Yeah, we all know what that means: your computer is no longer playing any sound. But that issue might be temporary, or it might need a manual fix. If you mouse over the icon and see the message ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’, then you will need to try a few things to fix this problem. Here is how to fix the ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’ issue in three simple ways.

  1. Re-enable the device yourself

When ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’ is displayed, it most likely means that the device is actually disabled. In order to enable it yourself, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run panel and type in devmgmt.msc. go to Sound, video and game controllers and Add legacy hardware, then go through the wizard. Or you can just enable it from there if the option is available.

  1. Uninstall and reinstall driver

Another thing you can try in order to fix the ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’ error is to manually reinstall the driver. From the same tab as before, select Uninstall for the driver, then restart your PC. Turn your PC back on and you should be prompted to reinstall the driver automatically.

  1. Update your driver

Another possible solution for the ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’ issue is to update your driver. ‘No Audio Output Device is installed’ is displayed sometimes when the driver is out of date, so just get Driver Easy and update it right now. Out of date drivers can cause a lot of issues.
