Fix Google Play Services Has Stopped

If you’ve been through this kind of error that won’t stop popping until it’s fixed, then you found the right place to find a solution. There are different steps and techniques that will allow you to fix your Google Play app.

Errors occur from different reasons and Google Play Store could be damaged if you try to change some settings in the Android OS. These following steps will help you fix the error. The brand of the smartphone/tablet doesn’t matter as long as it works with an Android OS, be it a Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, or even an Android Oreo version.

Clear Google Play Services Cache

  1. Go to Settings on your smartphone.
  2. Tap on Apps (Applications / App Management – the depends on the device you have)
  3. Tap on ‘All apps‘ from the tabs you have there.
  4. Find ‘Google Play Services’ app and tap it.
  5. Tap on the option ‘Clear Cache’. If you don’t see it, tap on the ‘Storage’ option and you’ll see ‘Clear Cache’ there.
  6. Restart your Android smartphone/tablet and see if this solution fixed the error.

Reset App Preferences

  1. Follow the step 1. From the previous solution.
  2. Find and tap on ‘Reset the App Preferences’ option.
  3. Restart your Android smartphone/tablet and check if the solution made the error go away.

Add a Google Account Again

Remove and add again your Google account with these steps:

  1. Go to ‘Settings’
  2. Find and tap on ‘Accounts’ (or ‘Account Management‘).
  3. A list of accounts will show you the apps that you have accounts for (such as Facebook, Google, WhatsApp and others). Tap on ‘Google’.
  4. Tap on the ‘…’ symbol from the right corner of you device. Tap ‘Remove account’ from those options.
  5. Go to ‘Settings’ again to add your Google account back.
  6. Tap on ‘Add Account’ and select ‘Google Account’.
  7. Enter your Google Mail address by following the instructions that you’ll receive there.

This solution might have solved your error but if it hasn’t been effective, then consider the next method.

Reinstall Google Play Services

Because Google Play Services is a preinstalled Android app which cannot be completely removed, you won’t be able to uninstall it. So you must uninstall the updates and reinstall them so that you get the latest version of Google Play Services and get rid of the error.

  1. Go to ‘Settings’ then tap on ‘Security’ and tap on ‘Device Administrators’.
  2. Tap on ‘Deactivate the device administrator’.
  3. Back in the ‘Settings’ menu you’ll see and open ‘Application Manager’.
  4. Tap on ‘All apps’ and search for ‘Google Play Services’.
  5. Tap on the option ‘Uninstall updates’.
  6. Confirm the uninstallation by tapping on ‘OK’.
  7. Open any app which requires Google Play Services. This will prompt you a message that will require you to reinstall Google Play Services.
  8. Go to ‘Settings’ and then ‘Security’ and tap on ‘Device Administrators’ to activate Android Device Manager.
  9. Restart your smartphone/tablet and see if the changes fixed the error.

If you still encounter the ‘Google Play Services Has Stopped’ error then there’s only one solution standing.

You Must Clear the Google Services Framework Cache

In order to properly work, Google Play Services relies on Google Services Framework that will sync your phone with Google servers in order to exchange data. Clearing the Framework Cache might solve the error.

  1. Go to ‘Settings’ and then ‘Application Manager’
  2. Tap on ‘All apps’ and search for Google Services Framework and then tap it.
  3. After you tapped on Google Services Framework tap ‘Force Stop’.
  4. Tap on the ‘Clear Cache’ button.
  5. Restart your smartphone/tablet in order for the changes to occur.

These solutions should help you fix the ‘Google Play Services Has Stopped’ error on your Android smartphone or tablet. If nothing works then you should also check the opinion of a professional.
