We saw the developer conference in May, where Google announced that they were currently working on a Chrome VR version that would work in Daydream.
On 23 September François Beaufort, a team member from the Chrome developers, announced on Google+ that they have released the first features in order to be tested by users.
By using Chrome 61, users will be able to interact and browse websites with the VR option. In order to do so, users will have to open a website on Chrome on their phones, slip the phone in the headset (called Daydream View) and use the websites that would support WebVR.
Other options for VR experiences include phone gaming, exploring different places in virtual mode, all with a comfortable and lightweight headset that fits even if you wear glasses. The facepad is washable by hand and there’s also an option to get more facepads at $14.99 each if you happen to lose, misplace or break it by accident.
Along with Samsung and Oculus, here comes Google and introduces VR browsing. The Oculus VR browser is still previewed by developers and Samsung has already had the VR browser on the internet for a while.
François Beaufort mentioned that Chrome has just begun and that there’s definitely more to come.
This means great news for VR enthusiasts, as they have more devices from which to choose.
If you’ve been wondering which phones are compatible with the Daydream VR device, then here are a few smartphones: Pixel is of course compatible with Google’s Daydream; Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung Galaxy Note8; Asus ZenFone AR; Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z; Huawei’s Mate 9 Pro; Axon 7 from ZTE and LG V30.
The Daydream View is available at $70 and it comes with the headset, a controller and a wrist strap.
