Android O vs. iOS 11 – Which OS Has The Best Features?

Apple and Google have been fighting the smartphone war sending their iPhone and Pixel devices to battle for quite a while now, and their other soldiers, iOS, and Android have both become some of the most popular Oss out there. With such tremendous players, it’s no wonder that the annual releases of their new OS versions are such important events. Let’s check out the features of both Google’s Android O and Apple’s iOS 11 to see which one is the winner between these two.

Background limits

This is the coolest feature of Android 8.0 O. in case you didn’t know, until Android Nougat, Google didn’t limit the number of apps running in the background but not with Android O there are some restrictions involving the background activity of the app. This results in improved performance and battery life. Apple has already done this in the past, so it seems to be a tie in this category between the two operating systems.

Notifications

Android Oreo brings a bunch of improvements in the notifications area as well. For instance, there’s a dot in the top-right corner of the app icon, and the number of dots means the number of awaiting notifications. Again, this feature existed in iOS for a long time.

Autofill API feature

This feature will help you stop worrying about making secure passwords and having trouble remembering them. Android O provides native support for password managers, but Apple doesn’t allow such permission to third-party apps for enhanced security.

Smart text selection, drag and drop

In iOS 11 you can select a text from the browser and drag it to another app for pasting. There’s a similar but less advanced feature in Android Nougat as well. Android Oreo brings some improvements with the feature called Smart Text Selection. When you highlight anything, a contextual link will open along with standard actions.

Native Screen Recording

iOS 11 bring this new feature which allows you to record your iPhone screen seamlessly. In Android such screen recorder apps are present, but you won’t find such a built-in functionality.

Picture in picture

Apple brought this facility to its devices with iOS 9, but the iPhones are deprived of it; only iPads get it. Google bought the PiP mode to its smartphones with Android O.

Digital Assistants and AR/VR

iOS 11’s Siri can translate words and phrases, and it’s less robotic. Google’s Assistant has a wider set of capabilities and better translations.

Regarding the AR/VR sections, Google has been using them for a long time with its Google Cardboard, Tango, and Daydream. Apple is just getting started with ARKit.

You get to decide who’s the winner and all we have to say is that Google keeps adding new features and bringing more goodies to its users, while Apple is polishing the existing experiences with a redesigned control center.
