A smartphone lost at sea by a sailor was recovered six days later in perfect working order.
Ben Schofield dropped his phone, an iPhone X, while working on the deck of the Regal Lady museum ship, reports The Independent. The smartphone reached the bottom of the port, at a depth of 15 meters.
Schofield asked a friend to dive for the device, but the operation was unsuccessful. Later, a week later, at reflux, he managed to recover the phone.
The smartphone was full of mud, but it worked. “I went to show it to my boss and I felt it vibrate in my hand. To my amazement, it was still on, “said the sailor. The battery level was at 3%.
Subsequently, Schofield cleaned the smartphone and put it to dry. Now, the man uses the device every day without any problems.
The iPhone X model was launched in 2017 and has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. The smartphone was designed to last 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.
Apple smartphones withstand great depths
It is not the first time that an iPhone reaches deep water and is recovered in working order after a long time.
Recently, a 6-year-old girl “fished” something unexpected: an iPhone XR that was still working. The phone had reached the water a year ago.
Moreover, a man from China recovered, in a way described as “miraculous”, after eight months, the iPhone smartphone that he dropped in a river. The phone, which appears to be an iPhone 7 Plus model, worked flawlessly.
